What Are Ceramic Dental Implants?

Straumann is one of the leading dental implant systems on the market. They have released their latest innovation which allows for dental implants made out of a ceramic material, to be used in replacing single or multiple teeth. The principle behind the ceramic implant will be the same as the the standard titanium implants, but with the main difference being, they are made out of a more natural and friendly non-metallic ceramic material.

What Is The Benefit Of Ceramic Over Metal Implants?

The material used in the standard dental implants is regularly used in medical procedures (hips, joints etc) on the human body, and is compatible & safe to use. However, some patients still prefer to have a more natural option available, which is where ceramic dental implants come in.

How Do Dental Implants Work?

When a tooth or multiple teeth have been lost and you would like a secure way to hold a new tooth/teeth replacement in place, dental implants may be ideal. The implant will become the “new root” for missing teeth. This will not be visible as they will be placed inside the jawbone and hidden by your gums. A restoration will then be securely attached to that implant (e.g. crown, bridge, overdenture etc). Your new teeth will look, feel and act as if they were your own teeth, allowing you to enjoy everyday life again.

Are Dental Implants Suitable For Me?

This is very much a case dependant question as each patient’s needs and requirements are different. There are many factors that need to be taken into consideration when placing dental implants and we will assess each patient on an individual basis to ensure we offer the most suitable treatment for you.
