We all suffer from bad breath from time to time. However 1 in 4 adults in the uk suffer from bad breath regularly.
Bad breath which is also known as halitosis isn’t serious and there can be many causes for it. Normally bad breath is caused by poor oral hygiene. When food gets stuck in between your teeth or on your tongue and starts to rot away it causes and unpleasant smell, which is known as bad breath. Another cause for bad breath is eating smelly foods or drinks, such as garlic or coffee, but this will only cause short term bad breath. Smoking is another cause for short term bad breath.
Tips For Fresh Breath
Make sure you brush your teeth and floss at least twice a day, to get rid of any trapped food between your teeth. Also use a mouthwash to keep your breath smelling fresh.
Brush or scrape your tongue, by doing this you will be removing bacteria at the back of the tongue, which brushing can miss.
Chew sugar-free gum so that you carry on producing saliva, which will stop your mouth drying out. A dry mouth can lead to bad breath due to bacteria build up.
Make sure that you have regular check-ups with your dentist. They can have a deep clean of your teeth and review your oral hygiene practices.
If you are a smoker then try quitting smoking. If you smoke, your breath will smell of stale smoke. In addition Smoking increases your risk of getting gum disease, which is another cause of bad breath.
