What Are Frenectomies?

Frenectomies are performed when the soft tissue (frenum) in the mouth is restricting another organs movement. This procedure can be performed on both children and adults.

I am a nervous patient and recently have had a fair amount of much needed dental work carried out at Ascent dental care in Tamworth. Everyone at the practice from the women on reception to the 3 practitioners I have had treatment from have been amazing. Different Types of Frenectomies

Lingual Frenectomy – When there is soft tissue in your mouth that is attached to the tongue and it stops movement of the tongue. The soft tissue is removed so the tongue is free to move.

Labial Frenectomy – When there is soft tissue attached to the lips and needs to be removed to allow the lips to move.

Frencetomies can also be performed if the soft tissue is attached to gingival tissue between teeth.

Lingual Frenectomies

If a patient has a condition called Ankloglossia (more commonly known as “tongue tied”).

This condition does have a severe impact on the patients tongue mobility and can also affect:

Speech
Eating
Oral Hygiene
Upper Jaw Development
Swallowing

Labial Frenectomies

In some orthodontic cases a labial frenectomy might be required to help assist with closing a tooth gap at the front.

Labial frenulums are commonly attached to the centre and upper lip between the patients two front upper teeth, which can lead to:

I had a similar procedure done 10 years ago, which was very painful and traumatic. Dr Savania is a compassionate, professional dentist who calmed me down and he did the procedure in record time, with absolutely no pain.
