Straightening teeth with braces is an ever growing popular treatment we are seeing more and more patients with. There are a number of reasons that can cause teeth to grow crooked and can occur over time in children and adults. There is no upper age limit to have your teeth straightened and we are also seeing a lot more adult patients who are looking at having braces.
One of the main reasons why we initially see patients at the free consultation is because they don’t like the way their teeth look. From having crooked or uneven teeth, it can also mean that you may be suffering from functional problems. What this means is that you may have a bite problem. The ideal bite is when the teeth meet together nicely. If there are any gaps or the upper set of teeth go to far, you may have an open bite.
If your teeth is purely a cosmetic issue and there is no problem with the bite, you may be suitable for a short term orthodontic solution such as the 6 month smiles. For more complex cases, you may require the damon brace.
As well as cosmetic and functional reasons for needing your teeth straightened, it also allows you to maintain a healthy oral hygiene regime. When you have crooked teeth it can cause problems when trying to brush your teeth and floss. Straight teeth can allow you to reach those harder to reach places and help you tackle the build up of plaque deposits (it is still recommended to see a hygienist every 6 months for a thorough clean).
