Can I Sleep in My Dentures?

Dentures are a removable option that are used to replace missing teeth (from partial to full sets). Dentures are quite a common option to have when you have lost several teeth. They have come on in leaps and bounds from historic dentures as they are made from better materials and are custom made for your exact measurements.

One of the worst things to have when it comes to dentures is something that doesn’t quite sit right in your mouth or feel right. This is because if its not 100% made for you, you can be quite uncomfortable and they can feel loose.

We do also offer alternatives at our practice, such as implant retained dentures that utilises dental implants to secure your denture in place. This tends to be the gold standard method of replacing teeth so does sit on the higher spectrum in terms of cost, but does offer a wide range of benefits such as stability and security.

Sleeping With Dentures

If you have gone with the dentures option you may be wondering if you can sleep in them. Even though it is possible to do so, we advise that at night time you keep your dentures in water and sleep without them. This is so it gives your gums time to breathe without having the dentures constantly in.

Please note that your dentures need to have constant moisture because if they dry up they can break. When they are in your mouth the natural moisture of your mouth will ensure they remain moist. So when they are taken out over night it is very important that they are kept in a glass of water.
