Dental erosion is when the hard outer layer of the tooth, called the enamel is worn away by food and drink and leaves the inner layer of the tooth, called the dentine (where the nerves are) unprotected, which can lead to pain and sensitivity.
You will suffer more from sensitivity with dental erosion because the nerves are exposed, which is a sign that you may be suffering from dental erosion. So when you have food or drink that is very hot, cold or acidic, you will experience severe pain. In addition the dentine layer of your teeth, tends to be a darker yellow colour than the enamel of your teeth, which can also be another sign that you are suffering from dental erosion.
Acidic foods and drinks attack the enamel layer of your teeth for a short while. Your saliva will eventually neturalise the acid in your mouth, however if you are constantly eating or drinking acidic foods or drinks, then your mouth will not have time to recover and repair the damage done, and the enamel will get worn away over time, resulting in you losing your tooth surface.
