The early stages of a child’s development is an important process with regards to how their adult teeth can come through. Signs can start to appear in children as young as 7-8 – it is normal for around 6 to see the permanent teeth come through. It is important that children do attend regular appointments so the dentist can monitor their progress.

When Should Your Child Visit an Orthodontic Dentist?

As children develop their are often warning signs on how the teeth might be affected:
Crooked, wonky or crowded teeth.
Early/Late loss of baby teeth (before 4 or after 7-8)
Protruding teeth
Biting/chewing difficulty
Finger and thumb sucking
Bruxism (teeth grinding)
Worn enamel

The above signs could potentially be an early indicator that braces may be required at a later stage of the childs life (around 9-14).

When a child is still developing, it is recommended that if needed, they undergo orthodontic treatment. This is because, once you reach adulthood, treatments can take a lot longer to complete and may require more extensive work to achieve the goals your are after.

How Long Will My Child Have to Wear Braces for?

We will be able to give you a more accurate treatment completion time once we have seen your child for a free consultation. The more severe a case is, the longer it will take to treat.

How Long Are Retainers Worn For?

At whatever age you have braces, it is always recommended that they are worn for life. When your teeth are straightened, the natural thing that your teeth will want to do is relapse back to their crooked position.

We understand this is not always a popular thing to do, especially when it comes to children, but we do offer a bonded retainer that is secured in place on the backs of the teeth, ensuring it is constantly working.

Would recommend 110%. I found the clinic based on the proximity to my house and Google reviews. Extremely good experience (especially considering you’re going to the dentist office!). I was booked for an emergency visit with Dr Jesal Savania, whom I would highly recommend. I had a wisdom tooth removal, which I didn’t expect to happen on the day of the visit. I had a similar procedure done 10 years ago, which was very painful and traumatic. Dr Savania is a compassionate, professional dentist who calmed me down and he did the procedure in record time, with absolutely no pain. I came back to Dr Savania a few weeks after for a general check up – he is probably the best dentist I have been too and will definitely go back.

I had a crown prep done today at Ascent and I can’t say enough good things. Didn’t even feel the injection to numb my mouth and the whole team made me feel at ease and calmed any nerves I had. Was a very easy process, and I was able to pay for the crown with their payment plan which made the whole thing a lot easier. Very happy with my choice to join this dentist a few months back.
