This is when too much of the gingival tissue is visible when you smile. It is quite common for this to happen. Even though there is nothing wrong with too much tissue being shown, it can be quite embarrassing for some people and may knock their confidence. The process to remedy this is called gummy smile correction or treatment.

I came to Tamworth 5 years ago with a real fear of dentists. As I needed to find a new practise I eventually plucked up courage to attend Ascent Dental Care.

I can honestly say, they have been amazing. From the reception team, especially Kathryn to my current dentist, Laura, I now have no fear of going for any treatment. What Causes a Gummy Smile?

There can be a number of reasons why you may have a gummy smile:

Short upper lip – if you were born with a shorter upper lip it can expose more of the gum
Child development – during early development there can be signs that a gummy smile may be developing, of which, braces could be used to potentially stop this from happening
Abnormal erupting teeth – teeth can sometimes erupt abnormally which can cause more of a gummy smile

How Can a Gummy Smile Be Treated?

To tackle a gummy smile there are a few treatments that may be suitable. We would be happy to see you first for a free consultation to examine your case and identify what treatment would suit you best. There are different gummy smile correction options available including:

Laser reshaping – we use a laser to remove excess gum carefully
Orthodontics – the younger a patient is, the more effective this treatment will be for preventing a gummy smile (due to managing patients bone development during those important years)
Anti-ageing injections – by injecting the upper lip it can relax the muscles in the area, causing it to drop and hide the excess gums

If like me you have had bad experiences in the past then this is the place to come to.I have been coming here now for two years to finally get the smile i am proud of.I had root canals carried out by Dr Jessal his skill and knowledge is amazing he is clearly at the very top of his profession,i never suffered any pain during or after and returned back to work that same day i can not thank him enough.

A short time after it was time for my crown work to begin and this was carried out by Dr Gursh who whitened my teeth and sorted out my new crowns which look so natural against my other teeth and a perfect fit first time,another top professional who cares and is passionate about getting that perfect smile, you cannot tell they are crowns amazing.

Now after my treatment i return to the hygienist Anita who keeps my teeth looking amazing.

I had been advised by my previous dentist that implants were probably not an option for me after losing several teeth. I decided to pursue looking for an implant specialist in the Tamworth area where I now lived. Finding Ascent and reading the very positive reviews I arranged a free consultation with Faresh. After a very informative discussion a treatment plan was put together for me detailing all the options available.

I was delighted to know that in fact I was suitable for implants and made a decision to go ahead. I was guided by Faresh and his team as to what would happen at each stage of my treatment plan. My implant journey began in December 2020 during Covid times and everyone at the practice were meticulous with cleanliness procedures providing reassurance to the patients.

It is now April 2021 and my implants are in and looking and feeling AMAZING!! I can now smile once again with pride and confidence. It is one of the best things that I have done and thank Faresh and his exceptional team for the kindness care and guidance that I received.
