I contacted Ascent Dental Care after my general dentist advised me that I needed root canal treatment, which they would be unable to carry out. I was looked after by Jesal, who put root canal fillings into 3 of my teeth, which was not a straightforward procedure, as they were crowned front teeth, and 2 of the crowns were some 25 years old. I can only say that he did an excellent job. He explained everything very thoroughly to me beforehand, and I was truly amazed at how little discomfort I felt when the work carried out. He is a really nice guy, who puts you totally at ease, and the nurses, reception and admin staff are all very friendly, polite and efficient.

I have no hesitation in recommending this excellent dental practice.

How Does The Pulp Become Infected?

If tooth decay sets in (causing cavities), it can make its way to the pulp if left untreated.

How To Stop The Need For Having a Root Canal?

By attending regular check ups to the dentist, we will be able to examine your teeth and ensure any potential problems are picked up early, and treated before the need for a root canal. Any cavities that are picked up early will be easier to treat with fillings, rather than letting bacteria reach the pulp.

If you already have cavities but there is no pain as of yet, it is always recommended to don’t leave them till you start to feel sensitivity or pain, as these are all signs that bacteria are getting close to the nerve of the tooth.

Extractions Vs Root Canals

This does depend on how bad the tooth infection is, but as a rule of thumb, extractions are always our last resort, as nothing will ever compare to your natural teeth.

Root canal treatment has a reputation as one of the least comfortable dental treatments. But things have changed.

How Long Is The Procedure?

The length of time it takes to treat your tooth will depend on how complex/severe your case is. Some of the factors involve:

Where the tooth is
How many teeth are being treated
How many affected roots to be treated
If the roots are curved

We will be able to give you a more accurate idea of treatment time once we have seen you for a free consultation.

Is The Procedure Painful?

The treatment area will be carefully numbed before we proceed with the root canal. However, because of the nature of the procedure (treating the nerve), there will be some slight discomfort. We will always go at a slow pace to ensure that any discomfort is left to a minimum.

If you are a nervous patient and would prefer to have sedation with the treatment, we are able to offer this too.
