Bone Grafting

Bone Grafting may be needed before you can have dental implants

Protocol for Bone Grafting:

  • Full consultation
  • X-rays
  • CT scan (if required)
  • Bone Grafting (if required)
  • Intra-venous sedation (if required)
  • Implant placement
  • Teeth whitening
  • Final restoration
  • Oral hygiene programme
  • Follow up & maintenance programme

For the successful placement of dental implants you will need to have sufficient bone in the jaws for the implants to be placed.

There are a number of factors that can cause advanced bone loss:

  • Missing teeth for a prolonged time
  • Advanced gum disease
  • Natural ageing wear and tear
  • Traumatic tooth loss experience or an extraction

Our highly trained dental team will take an x-ray of the mouth to determine the bone levels, and if indeed a bone graft may be required before the placement of dental implants. We will always advise our patients for the best course of action.

If we identify a bone graft is required, we will book a further appointment to meet your needs.

What Does a Bone Graft Involve?

  • For maximum comfort we will carry out this appointment under IV sedation
  • The required bone will either come from another site of the mouth or be artificial bone
  • The additional bone will then be fixed on the chosen site
  • The treated site will be sealed and a healing period will follow before going to implant placement
